Tech Demo: Depth of Field

Comments: This is my first post process effect and I have to say that I really love this kind of effects. The next demo will be another post process effect (hdr, motion blur, …). This demo implements the Depth of field effect as in Shaderx3 article by Thorsten Scheuermann and Natalya Tatarchuk. I read various articles about this effect, being this the easier to implement to me. Its a good start to image processing world.

Algorithm: Depth of field post process effect: gaussian filter and poisson disc to blur.

Technology: C++, DirectX 9.0c, HlSl, Win32, Visual Studio 2005

Develop/Build/Test Machine Specs

  • Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHz
  • 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
  • GeForce 7800 GS (256 MB)
  • DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
